Young Takes Home Player of the Week Honors

DULUTH, Minn. – Senior Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) has been named this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Men's Defensive Player of the Week following crucial weekend in net for the Thunder against Concordia University Wisconsin.

It is the second time this season that a Thunder student-athlete has earned player of the week honors.  It is the first time Young has earned the award in his career at Trine.

The team vaulted themselves into a Harris Cup Playoffs spot with a 1-0-1 record against the visiting Falcons. The Thunder took over fourth place in the south division with the three points gained from the weekend's results.

Young played both games in net for Trine on the weekend turning in two solid performances.

On Friday, Young allowed just one goal in the first 59 minutes of the contest as the team built an 8-1 lead before ultimately winning 8-2. He finished the contest with 22 saves.

Saturday saw the team in a closer battle with the visiting Falcons, with the game ending in a 2-2 tie. Young held the Falcons scoreless through the overtime period including two minutes where the team was down a man. He finished the contest with 25 saves.

All told for the weekend Young finished with a 1.92 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.

Trine continues their season by traveling to face Finlandia University for a pair of games. The first will take place on Friday, January 17 and is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
