DULUTH, Minn. – Senior Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) has been named this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Men's Defensive Player of the Week after finishing a weekend with a 2-0 record in net.

It is the third time this season that a Thunder student-athlete has earned player of the week honors.  It is the second time this season and in his career that Young has taken home the award.

The Thunder picked up a pair of victories over visiting Marian (Wis.) University to finish the weekend with the sweep. Young allowed just one goal in net during the weekend to lock out the opposition's offensive effort.

On Friday Young recorded his third shutout of the season as the team finished with a 5-0 victory. He finished the game with 44 saves. He followed up the performance by allowing just one goal on Saturday while recording 34 saves, as the team won 5-1.

Overall Young finished the weekend with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .987 save percentage.

Trine currently sits at 10-8-1 overall and 8-5-1 in NCHA play. The record puts them in a tie for third place with Aurora University in the NCHA South Division standings, the top for from the division will advance to the Harris Cup Playoffs.

The team will look to improve their position with a pair of games at Aurora this weekend. The first is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST on Friday, Jan. 31.
