Spartans' Third Period Charge Leads to 3-3 Tie for Men's Hockey

GENEVA, Ill. -- Three third period goals for Aurora University led to a 3-3 tie for the Trine University men's hockey team.

The Thunder struck first in the contest when junior Corey Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) came up with a goal in the 18th minute of the first period. Sophomore Brandon Krumpschmid (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added an assist on the goal.

Trine added to their lead in the 14th minute of the second period. This time junior Max DiCicco (Howell, Mich.) tallied the goal with sophomore Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) adding the assist.

The team would take the 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Spartans finally put themselves on the scoreboard in the seventh minute of the third period. The Thunder would respond in the 13th minute of the period with an unassisted tally from sophomore Austin Stauffer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.). The goal gave the team their second two-goal lead of the game.

Aurora took over offensively from there on out, scoring two goals in the final five minutes of the period to tie the contest at three. Neither team would score in the overtime period and the game would end in a draw.

Senior Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) finished the game with 34 saves in the game for Trine.

The Thunder finish the night with a 10-8-2 overall record while standing at 8-5-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. They will face off with Aurora again tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 1. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST.
