Two-Goal Third Gives Men's Hockey Win

GENEVA, Ill. -- The Trine University men's hockey team came up with two goals in the third period to defeat Aurora University by the score of 4-2.

The Thunder picked up two goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Freshman Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) scored the first goal with an assist from sophomore TJ Delaney (St. Louis, Mo.). The second goal came from freshman Justin Meers (St. Charles, Mo.) with classmate Brad Jenion (Macclesfield, Great Britain) adding the assist.

The second period saw the Spartans charge back into the contest with two goals of their own tying the game going into the second intermission.

Aurora looked ready to take their first lead of the game when they were awarded a power-play opportunity. Instead, the Thunder came up with a short-handed goal to take back the lead. Junior Corey Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) came up with the goal with Prappas and sophomore Hunter Payment (Monroe, Mich.) adding assists.

Trine would then ice the game with a power-play goal of their own in the 18th minute of the final period. Delaney scored the goal with Prappas and junior Blake Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) adding assists.

The Thunder improve to 11-8-2 overall and 9-5-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. The three points from the weekend give the team sole possession of third place in the NCHA South Division. They will continue their season when they travel to face MSOE. The first game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. CST on Friday, Feb. 7.
