Bulldogs Pull Away Late in Close Opener for Men's Hockey

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Junior Jared Domin (Novi, Mich.) tallied a hat trick in his first game for the Trine University men's hockey team as the Thunder struck first and held close with their hosts from Adrian College. They would ultimately drop the game 6-3.

Just overr a minute into the 2019-20 season Trine scored their first goal. After a defensive zone faceoff win Domin carried the puck up the ice for the team before skating around the back of the net and passing the puck to sophomore Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) who quickly passed it back to Domin who finished off the play with the goal.

The lead was short lived however as the Bulldogs scored their first goal of the contest in the fifth minute of play. The first period would end with the 1-1 score.

Adrian took their first lead of the contest at the one minute mark of the second period and then added to that lead in the 13th minute to make the deficit two goals at 3-1.

The Thunder cut the lead in half in the 16th minute. This time junior TJ Delaney (St. Louis, Mo.) collected his own rebound in the left corner. After settling the puck he placed a perfect pass to the front of the net where Domin cashed in again to pull the score ot 3-2.

The score would hold there until well into the third period when in the 12th minute Adrian built the lead to two again.

In the 14th minute senior Ben Lau (Prospect, Ky.) collected the puck behind the net and passed it up the ice to Domin who carried it just into the offensive zone before passing it cross ice. Prappas would collect the puck and cross in front of the net before firing off a shot. The rebound went past the goalie to a waiting Domin who secured his hat-trick for the evening.

The goal once again pulled the Thunder within one goal at 4-3. The Bulldogs responded again in the 16th minute to take back the two-goal deficit.

With just under two minutes remaining in the contest Trine pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker to try to tie the game, but Adrian capitalized with an empty-netter to ice the game at 6-3.

The Thunder will take the ice again on Friday, Nov. 13 when they host Concordia University Wisconsin for a 4 p.m. contest.
