Balanced Offense Leads Men’s Hockey to 5-2 Win

MEQUON, Wis. – The Trine University men's hockey team had five different skaters tally a goal as the team picked up a 5-2 win over their hosts from Concordia University Wisconsin.

The Thunder tallied the first goal of the contest at the 11-minute mark of the first period. Junior Brandon Krumpschmid (Grand Rapids, Mich.) came up with the goal, his first of the season. Classmate William Casey added an assist.

The team would stretch the lead to two just over five minutes later. This time the goal was an unassisted one coming from sophomore Brad Jenion (Macclesfield, Great Britain) his first of the season.

Following the first intermission, Trine added to their lead again. Sophomore Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) came up with the score with both senior Blake Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) and sophomore Brett Piper (Cartier, Manitoba) adding assists. The goal which gave the team a 3-0 lead would eventually become the game-winner.

The Falcons would reel off a pair of goals through the next five minutes of the contest to pull back within one at 3-2.

Piper came up with a goal of his own in the 18th minute of the period to move the score to 4-2. Prappas and junior Jared Domin (Novi, Mich.) added assists. Junior Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) then iced the game in the final minute with an unassisted goal.

Freshman Shane Brancato (Lake Villa, Ill.) played a strong contest in net, finishing the game with 44 saves and the win.

The win was the first of the season for the Thunder as they improve to 1-4-0 overall. They will host the United States National Team Development Program Under 18 team in an exhibition contest on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
