Men's Hockey Doubled Up by Spartans

GENEVA, Ill. -- The Trine University men's hockey team came up short of Aurora University in their second Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) contest of the season, falling 6-3 in the game.

The Spartans came out firing on all cylinders scoring the first two goals of the contest.

It looked like the Thunder would enter the intermission trailing by two, but in the final seconds of the first period, the team took advantage of a power-play opportunity to cut the deficit in half. Junior Jared Domin (Novi, Mich.) came up with the goal his third of the season. Both Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) and Justin Meers (St. Charles, Mo.) came away with assists on the goal.

Trine pulled back to even in the sixth minute of the second period. This time senior Blake Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) came up with the goal with Frank Trazzera (Keller, Texas) and Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) adding assists.

The tie was short-lived as Aurora came up with two goals in under two minutes to pull back ahead by two at 4-2. They then added another goal in the final minutes of the period to take a 5-2 lead into the second intermission.

The Thunder would score another power-play goal in the opening minutes of the third. Senior Corey Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) came up with the goal with assists from Blake Robertson and Brett Piper (Cartier, Manitoba).

Trine falls to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in NCHA play following the loss. They will face off with Aurora again tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 6. The home game will be played at 7 p.m.
