Late Heroics Lift Men's Hockey to 4-3 Overtime Win

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's hockey team came away with a goal in the final minute of regulation and then another in the first minute of overtime to top visiting Marian (Wis.) University by the score of 4-3.

The Thunder struck first in the contest with a power-play goal in the 13th minute of the first period. Sophomore Frank Trazzera (Keller, Texas) came up with the goal with classmates Justin Meers (St. Charles, Mo.) and Breandan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) adding assists.

The lead would last well into the second period before the Sabres came up with their first goal of the night in the 13th minute of the second period. They would take their first lead of the contest in the fourth minute of the final period at 2-1.

Trine responded with another power-play goal in the eighth minute of the same period. This time junior Jared Domin (Novi, Mich.) came up with the goal with assists from Meers and freshman Jared Bowman (Calgary, Alberta).

The lead lasted just under eight minutes as Marian came up with another goal in the 16th minute to take back the lead.

It looked like the night would end badly for the Thunder as they still trailed with only a minute left in the game. At that point, they pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The move worked, as the team came up with a tying goal with just 26 seconds left in the game.

Trazzera started the play by settling the puck behind the net, where Domin was able to collect. Domin moved forward and passed the puck across the face of the net to a waiting Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) who finished strong for his fourth goal of the season.

With the score tied at 3-3, the teams headed into the 3-on-3 overtime period. It was a short-lived affair as the Trine sealed the victory in the first minute of play.

Prappas came up with an offensive zone steal to start the play. He then passed it across the face of the net to a newly arrived Corey Robertson (South Lyon, Mich.) who came up with the goal, his second of the season.

Freshman Shane Brancato (Lake Villa, Ill.) recorded the win on the night. He finished the game with 24 saves.

The Thunder improve to 3-6 overall following the overtime win. They are scheduled to hit the road to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering in an NCHA contest on Saturday, Feb. 20. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m. CST.
