Men's Hockey Doubles Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Trine University men's hockey team offense exploded for four goals in the second period to cruise to a 6-3 victory over their hosts from Marian (Wis.) University. Fifth-year senior Garrett Hallford led the way with four points in the contest.

Most of the first period was scoreless, but the Thunder took a lead into the first intermission. Senior Brendan Prappas scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute with classmate Brad Jenion and freshman Josh Wright adding assists.

The 1-0 lead lasted into the fifth minute of the second period, when the Sabres scored their first of the day. The goal was set up by a Trine penalty and knotted the game at one.

In the eighth minute of the period, Marian received a five-minute major to give the Thunder an extended power play of their own. Hallford scored a pair of goals during the stretch to build a 3-1 lead for the team. Wright, Prappas and sophomore Bobby Price recorded assists on the goals.

The team added two more in the period, coming just over a minute apart starting in the 15th minute. Freshman Evan Carroll scored the first with classmate Sam Henry adding an assist. Then Prappas scored his second of the day with Price and Hallford adding assists. The pair of goals gave the team a 5-1 lead which they would take into the second intermission.

The first half of the third period saw the home squad narrow the deficit with two goals of their own, cutting the score to 5-3. Senior Frank Trazzera responded in the 14th minute with an assist from Hallford to make the score 6-3.

Both defenses held the game scoreless for the final seven minutes of play and the score would go final.

Sophomore Cristian Wong-Ramos recorded the win for the team on the back of 26 saves in the contest.

Trine improves to 5-5-1 overall and 3-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play after the win. They will take on the Sabres again tomorrow, Saturday, December 2. The contest is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
