Thunder Split Weekend with St. Norbert

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's hockey team ends the weekend with a split, falling to visiting St. Norbert College by the score of 4-0.

The game started slowly with neither team finding the back of the net in the first 18 minutes of play. Then in the 19th minute the Green Knights scored the first goal of the game and the lone one of the first period.

In the waning minutes of the period, a kneeing penalty was assessed against Trine giving St. Norbert five minutes of man advantage that lasted into the second period. They ended up scoring a pair of goals on the power-play, both coming just after the first intermission.

Down 3-0, the Thunder had their first legitimate scoring chance in the ninth minute of the second period. The team had a 2-on-1 opportunity that the executed perfectly, giving Sam Antenucci a chance on a nearly empty net. His shot went just wide, and the Green Knights were able to stave off the threat.

St. Norbert added a fourth goal in the 16th minute of the second taking a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

Neither team scored in the third, but the Thunder came just a hair's breadth from doing so. In the 16th minute of the period, Tyler Blanchard had a breakaway chance and fired his first shot on the goalie. The rebound went out in front and Blanchard had a second chance, but the net came out of place just as he fired his shot.

The Thunder fall to 5-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will continue their season next weekend when they travel to face Lake Forest College for their third NCHA doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT / 8 p.m. ET on Friday, November 17.
