Men's Hockey Sweeps Sabres with Six-Goal Performance

ANGOLA, Ind. – Six different members of the team scored a goal, as the Trine University men's hockey team secured the weekend sweep with a 6-3 victory over visiting Marian University.

The Thunder trailed for most of the first period and half of the second. Marian scored a pair in the opening stanza to Trine's one. Sam Antenucci scored for the Thunder in the fifth minute of play with Thad Marcola and Josh Wright adding assists.

The team rattled off three straight in the second to take both take the lead and build on it. The first came in the 11th minute of the period. Brendan Finn passed the puck through the neutral zone, finding Antenucci who was able to move into the offensive side of the ice. The sophomore made an incredible pass across the face of the net to give Jack Cooper an easy goal.

Just over a minute later Wright put himself in the goal column. This time with assists by Matteo Ybarra and Sean Henry. The third goal came two minutes later, this time from Marcola on a near breakaway that was set up by Drew Welsch and Henry. The team took the 4-2 goal into the second intermission.

Five minutes into the third, Henry added his third point of the day, this time with the team's fifth goal. He scored off his own rebound after Michael DiPietra had caused a turnover in the neutral zone.

Marian cut the lead back to two in the latter part of the period, close enough to pull their goalie for the final two minutes of play. Welsch caused a turnover in the defensive end and was able to poke the puck across the blueline to Tyler Blanchard who carried it just into the offensive zone before firing a shot home for the empty net goal.

The Thunder dominated on the offensive side of the ice, outshooting the Sabres 47-18 in the contest. Kyle Kozma picked up his second win of the weekend with 15 saves.

The Thunder improve to 10-2-0 overall and 7-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the victory. They will enjoy a long break before they next compete with their next game coming on Friday, December 29 when they travel to face Hamilton College. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
