Fourth Quarter Effort Leads Yeomen Over Trine

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO-- Three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter led Oberlin to an 8-5 victory over the Trine men's lacrosse team Tuesday night in a neutral site contest held at John Carroll University.

Nick Lobley, John Firestone and Matt Fox scored in the fourth quarter to break oven a five-all tie and lead the Yeomen to the victory. Lobley scored three goals to lead the Oberlin attack. The Yeomen outshot Trine 40-21. George Youpel (Chicago Ridge, Ill./St. Rita) scored two goals to lead the Thunder attack. Matt Lamb (Akron, Ohio/Revere) made nine saves and notched a game-high seven ground balls. Trine falls to 0-4 on the season. Oberlin is now 4-1 overall.

Andrew Walters (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) scored his first-career goal for Trine. Rob Brzezinski (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) won 10-of-16 face-offs and notched six ground balls. Paul Carlquist (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Chris Ward (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) each scored a goal for the Thunder.

Connor Jackson scored two goals and dished out three assists for a five-point night for Oberlin. Erickson Andrews made seven saves in net to earn the victory. The Yeomen held a 33-29 edge in ground balls and were successful on 20-of-23 clear attempts.

Youpel got the Thunder on the board early, scoring his first goal of the night just over a minute into the contest. Patrick Walker (Round Lake Ill./Grayslake North) picked up the assist, the first of his three helpers in the contest.

The rest of the first half belonged to Oberlin however, as the Yeomen scored four-straight goals to take a 4-1 lead into the half. Lobley scored two of his goals during the first half. The Yeomen outshot the Thunder 20-10 over the first two quarters of play.

The third quarter belonged to Trine, as the Thunder outscored the Yeomen 4-1 to knot the score at five-apiece. Walters scored an unassisted goal, with Youpel scoring on another assist from Walker to cut the score to 4-3 with 11:00 remaining in the third quarter. Jackson restored a two-goal lead for the Yeomen, but Carlquist and Ward scored in the final 1:12 of the quarter to tie the score.

Lobley's goal with 12:07 proved to be the game-winner as Oberlin scored three unanswered tallies in the final quarter. John Firestone made it 7-5, and Fox's man-up goal with 1:19 remaining sealed the victory. The Yeomen outshot Trine 12-3 in the final quarter.

The Thunder will play their first home game of the season this Sunday, Mar. 16 when they host Benedictine (Ill.) at 1:00 p.m. in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
