Thunder Defeat Wilmington for Third-Straight Win

ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine men's lacrosse team controlled the action from start-to-finish in a 15-3 victory over Wilmington Wednesday night in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

The Thunder scored the first 11 goals of the game to quickly put the game out of reach. Trine held a commanding 49-16 edge in shots, 46-23 advantage in ground balls, and won 19-of-21 faceoffs. George Youpel (Chicago Ridge, Ill./St. Rita) scored a career-high five goals to lead the way for the Thunder. Youpel has stepped up big over the three-game win-streak, with 10 goals and two assists during that span of games. Chris Ward (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) and Patrick Walker (Round Lake Park, Ill./Grayslake North) each notched three-point nights, with Ward picking up three goals and Walker three assists. Walker added seven ground balls.  Trine improves to 3-8 overall. Wilmington falls to 4-6.

Trine came out firing on all cylinders, as they scored seven times in the opening quarter. Youpel scored three times in the first quarter, with Walker picking up assists on two of those tallies. Ward also notched a goal, while Nic Ruby (Indianpolis, Ind./Chatard) notched the first of his two goals and Paul Carlquist (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Adam Martin (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) each added a tally.

Martin's second tally of the night stretched Trine's lead to 11-0 with 4:11 to play in the first half. Youpel scored twice and Ward also added a tally in the second quarter. The 11-goal lead proved insurmountable for the Quakers, who were never able to get any closer than nine.

Jalen Jackson had a goal and four ground balls to lead the way for Wilmington. Rob Brzezinski (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) won 16-of-18 faceoffs and notched three ground balls for the Thunder.

Ward has now scored multiple-goals in four-straight games. Walker extended his streak of games picking up an assist to four games. Brzezinski has won 44-of-55 faceoffs (80 percent) over the last three games.

Trine returns to MIAA-play this Saturday, Apr. 12 when they travel to Calvin. Face-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
