ANGOLA, IND.—The Trine men's lacrosse team spent this past Saturday performing service for a local family.

The team spent the morning volunteering for Jon Seeman and Kelly Butler, whose daughter, Brooklyn, is affected with Rett Syndrome and son, Boston, is affected with Down Syndrome. The student-athletes spent the morning installing a hot tub, performing yard work, helping make the home more accessible for the children, and helping perform other household tasks for the family. The work performed will help make the home a better environment for each of the children and be a big boost to the family.

The highlight of the day came when the team presented Brooklyn and Boston with signed Trine lacrosse jerseys. The team even serenaded Brooklyn with some One Direction tunes, one of the child's favorite bands.

The team also signed cards for Girl Power 2 Cure, a foundation dedicated to raising awareness and funds for treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome.

Rett Syndrome is a non-inherited, post-natal neurological disorder that causes impairments affecting the ability to speak, walk and eat. Its hallmarks are near constant, repetitive hand movements while awake. The condition affects mostly girls, and is rarely seen in boys.

The Thunder lacrosse team is in the early stages of planning a benefit game for Rett Syndrome in the spring. Information on the benefit will be released when details are finalized.
