Thunder Win Big On Senior Night

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine men's lacrosse team picked up a dominating, 17-4 victory over Calvin in MIAA-action Tuesday night in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

The Thunder scored seven goals to race out to a big first quarter lead and were never seriously threatened the rest of the night. Nine different Trine players scored, while a total of 12 players notched at least one point. Paul Carlquist (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) notched a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists. The junior added four ground balls. Trine outshot Calvin by a 41-10 margin and held a 41-20 edge in ground balls. The Thunder improved to 3-7 overall, 1-3 in the MIAA. Calvin fell to 2-11 overall, 0-4 in conference play.

Chris Ward (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) added three goals and an assist for a four-point night. Nick Maher (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) notched his first-career multi-goal effort, while Kevan Barissi (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) picked up his second-consecutive two-goal game. Adam Martin (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) scored a goal in his final home game as a member of the Thunder. Fellow senior Zach Mathews (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood) caused a turnover.

Brandon Walters (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) notched a two-point night with a goal and an assist, while Jake Ahearn (Naperville, Ill./Naperville), Andrew Walters (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) and G.T. Youpel (Chicago Ridge, Ill./St. Rita) each added goals.

Jordan Lelito (West Chicago, Ill./West Chicago) won 14-of-20 face-offs in leading the Thunder to a 16-of-25 effort. Lelito also notched a career-high three assists and picked up a career-high nine ground balls.

Sam Margulis (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) picked up the victory in net in his first-career start. The junior made one save in three quarters of action. Jordan Backer (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) caused four turnovers to help pace the Trine defensive efforts. The Thunder forced the Knights into 28 turnovers in the contest.

Trine returns to action Saturday, April 18 at Albion. Face-off is slated for noon.
