O'Keefe named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Colin O'Keefe has been named the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

O'Keefe (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) scored in each of Trine's two games this week to contribute two goals to the offensive attack. The defender had scored just one career goal entering the week. He also picked up four ground balls and caused one turnover on the week. The senior's performance helped the Thunder to a 1-1 record on its spring break trip. He is being honored as Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

O'Keefe is off to a strong start to his senior season as he looks to follow up on his All-MIAA Second Team campaign last year. In addition to his two goals, he has collected seven ground balls and caused two turnovers. One of his goals came in a man-down situation.

Over the course of his career, O'Keefe has collected 112 ground balls and caused 41 turnovers. His all-conference campaign a year ago featured a career-high 16 caused turnovers.

Trine is off to a 1-2 start this season. The Thunder host Wilmington (Ohio) for the home-opener this Wednesday, Mar. 16 at 6 p.m. in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
