Helm named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Austin Helm has been named the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Helm (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) shut out Baldwin Wallace over the final 32:03 of action in Saturday's game. The senior made a season-high 10 saves over that span. He also caused two turnovers, tied for the team lead in the game. Helm is being honored as the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Helm has worked his way into the playing mix in goal for Trine the last three games. He has seen 50:14 of action in goal this season, making 11 saves. Helm sports a .917 save percentage this season.

Trine is off to a 3-3 start in non-conference play. The Thunder most recently saw a three game winning-streak snapped at Baldwin Wallace with a 7-4 loss.

MIAA play opens this Saturday, Apr. 9 as Trine travels to Alma. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m.
