Nick Maher Earns USILA Academic Honor

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University men's lacrosse player Nick Maher (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) added to his list of post-season awards with an academic honor from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) as a Division III Scholar All-American.

Maher is one of 65 recipients of the award and is one of two players selected from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Earlier this season, Maher earned his second All-MIAA award and his first first-team accolade.  He was a second-team pick in 2016. 

In 2018, Maher led the team in goals (31) assists (32) and points (63).  His 32 assists also led the MIAA and ranked in a tie for fifth in goals with teammate Neil Orr (Lombard, Ill./Montini Catholic) and second in points.  He recorded eight multi-goal games in 2018, that included a career-tying high five goal effort in a win against Concordia-Chicago in which he ended the game with eight overall points (five goals and three assists). 

Maher also had a career-high 11-point game against Mount St. Joseph in the second game of the season in which he scored four goals and added seven assists.  His 11 points ranked second most in a single game in program history and his seven helpers were a single-game record.  In addition this season, Maher tallied 30 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers.

For his career, Maher scored 96 goals which made him the program all-time leader in that category.  He also finished with 151 total points (96 goals and 55 assists) which put him second all-time.
