Gearig Named MIAA Player of the Week

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University junior men's lacrosse player Justin Gearig (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive "Player of the Week."

Gearig helped lead Trine to a 2-0 record this past week to start the season beginning with a 10-9 win against Southwestern (Texas) University in the season opener and then a 24-7 win against the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.

For the week, Gearig scored four goals in both games to lead the team and also had four assists for a total of 12 points.  Highlighting the week was a seven-point effort in the win against Dallas in which he scored four goals and added three assists.  

After two games, Gearig leads the team in goals (eight), points (12) and is tied for the team lead in assists (four) and shots on goal (11).  Gearig has taken 13 shots and has a 61.5 shot percentage.  Two of his goals scored this season have come on "man-up" opportunities and he has also tallied one goal on a "man-down" disadvantage. 

Trine is scheduled to host North Central (Ill.) College next Tuesday, Mar. 12 at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium in the home opener.  The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
