Gearig Named MIAA Player of the Week for Second Time This Season

FREELAND, MICH.  --  Trine University men's lacrosse player Justin Gearig (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week" for the second time this season.

Gearig helped the Thunder to 16-6 win against Wabash College this past Saturday (Mar. 23) and improve to 4-1 overall on the year.

In the game against the Little Giants, Gearig finished with a total of eight points with three goals on four shots and also assisted on five others.  He was one of three players to record at least three goals against Wabash.  In addition, Gearig tallied three ground balls.

For the season, Gearig now moves into first on the team in points (25), goals (14) and assists (11).  His 25 total points and 11 assists put him in a tie for ninth in the MIAA in both categories and his 14 goals are tied for 14th overall.  He has taken 30 shots, with 23 being on net, and has a .467 shot percentage.

Three of his goals scored this season have come on special teams with two "man-up" goals and one goal that came on a man-disadvantage.  Additionally, Gearig has tallied seven ground balls.

Trine will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. for a matchup against the Milwaukee School of Engineering next Saturday, Mar. 30.  The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
