Men's Lacrosse Posts Lopsided Victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite the second power outage in the team's first three games, the Trine University men's lacrosse team secured a lopsided victory over their hosts from Spalding University finishing the day with a 21-1 score. The team arrived to a powerless section of Louisville, but were able to play the entire game without interruption.

Freshman Jackson Bell started the scoring for the Thunder, posting an unassisted goal in the third minute of the opening period. After breaking the seal, the team went to work scoring eight total goals in the remainder of the opening quarter. Sophomore Charlie Anderson led the way during the period, scoring two of the team's goals while senior Andrew Douglas secured a goal and two assists.

The second quarter was more of the same with Trine scoring seven goals to build a 15-0 lead at halftime. Freshman Peter Piccillo scored the first goal of the period and was the lone member of the team to record two. Junior Aiden Theobald led the way for the team putting up a goal and two assists in the quarter.

The Thunder went deeper on the depth chart in the third period slowing the scoring by a bit. They posted five more goals to take a 20-0 lead. Freshman Will Gonia led the way for the team scoring two of those five goals.

Freshman Teague Stephens finished the scoring for the team in the final period. His lone goal gave the team their final 21-0 lead. The Golden Eagles scored their only goal around the halfway mark of that final period to make the final 21-1 score.

Stephens led the team in the contest with four goals while both Gonia and Piccillo finished with three.  Theobald posted three assists in the contest with Douglas and freshman Mason Slazyk both adding two.

Trine improves to 3-0 following the victory. They will return home for their next game which is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday, March 11 and will be played against DePauw University.
