Thunder Stung in Season Finale

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team finished their season with a home game against Kalamazoo College with the visiting side coming out on top by the score of 15-8.

The two teams traded goals during the first quarter taking a 5-5 score into the first break. After an opening goal by the Hornets, junior Colin Custer put the Thunder on the board with just under 13 minutes remaining. Sophomore Charlie Anderson gave Trine their first lead of the game a few minutes later.

A trade of goals later saw the score at 3-2, with the Thunder represented by sophomore Patrick Doyle during the stretch. The next three goals went to Kalamazoo letting them build a 5-3 lead, but the home side responded in the final minutes of the period by tying the game at five. Custer and freshman Brendan Dale each scored.

The second quarter saw the Hornets dominate and score four goals in a row. They added three more to the streak to start the second half. All told they built a 12-5 lead before Doyle scored his second goal of the day with 8:29 remaining in the third.

The two teams traded goals in the fourth quarter with three going to the Hornets and two to the Thunder. Freshmen Peter Piccillo and Chris Molnar each scored for the team in the quarter to get them to the final 15-8 score.

Trine finishes the season with a 9-5 overall record and a 1-5 record in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. It is the second straight year that the team has finished with a 9-5 record, giving head coach Ryan Kuhn the best two-season stretch in the program's history by one head coach.
