Thunder Repel Raiders in 6-5 Win

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team held off the Milwaukee School of Engineering to secure a 6-5 victory in their fourth game of the season.

The Thunder scored the lone goal of the first period to take the early lead. Mitchell Voglewede scored the tally with J'Oshua Shaw adding an assist.

Trine continued their run in the second scoring the first two goals of that period to build at 3-0 lead. Noah Markus and Patrick Doyle scored the goals with JJ Boos adding an assist on the second. The deficit didn't last long, however, with the Raiders scoring three unanswered to finish the period. The two teams enter halftime tied at three goals each.

Aidan Kubiak opened the second half with a goal to give the Thunder back the lead. Voglewede added an assist on the goal. The only penalty of the game went against Trine a few minutes later and MSOE took advantage of the man-up opportunity to tie the game again. Kubiak scored his second goal of the period and game a few minutes later to send the game to the third with Trine leading 5-4.

Once again, the Raiders had an answer. They scored with just under ten minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game again, this time at five.

It was Trine's Peter Piccillo who scored the final goal of the game, making up for his penalty in the third period. Kramer Zastrow added an assist on the goal, that would become the game winner five minute later with the Thunder on top 6-5.

In net Nick DiPaolo played a solid contest, making nine saves while allowing just the five goals. The win is his third of the season.

Trine improves to 3-1 following the close victory. They will travel to face Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, March 6 for their next game. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
