Thunder Drop Battle with Muskies

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team tied the game in the final period, but ultimately lost a start-to-finish battle against Muskingum University by the score of 10-9. Kramer Zastrow led the way for the team offensively, scoring four goals in the contest.

The Thunder opened the scoring in the contest, with Peter Piccillo putting the first mark on the scoreboard. Patrick Doyle added an assist. Two minutes later the team added to their lead when Charlie Anderson scored an unassisted goal.

The Muskies found their rhythm later in the first, scoring two goals to end the period in a 2-2 tie.

Zastrow scored his first of the day in the opening minutes of the second period, with Aiden Theobald following close behind to give the team another two-goal lead at 4-2.

After six minutes of tough defense, Muskingum swam their way back into the contest. They scored two goals in a minute to tie the game again, before ultimately taking a 5-4 lead before the halftime intermission.

Trine once again opened the scoring in the third period, this time with Zachary Norris finding the back of the net. Anderson added an assist. The next three goals went to the Muskies as they built their biggest lead of the day at 8-5. Zastrow ended the period with his second of the game to cut the deficit back to two heading into the fourth quarter.

Two minutes into the final period, Zastrow struck again, closing the gap further with an 8-7 score. After Muskingum responded, the Thunder rattled off two straight to tie the game at nine. Piccillo and Zastrow scored the goals with Anderson and Noah Markus adding assists.

The Muskies had one last answer for the Thunder, scoring the final goal of the game with 3:42 remaining in regulation.

Trine falls to 3-5 overall after the heartbreaking loss. The team is set to host a second game in a row on Friday, March 22. They will faceoff with Centenary (La.) College on that date with a 3 p.m. start time.
