Breda Featured on Goff Rugby Report

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Named the new Trine University men's rugby coach in December, Danny Breda has been featured in the latest edition of the Goff Rugby Report.

"I am excited to see what Danny can do with our new program," said athletic director Matt Land upon Breda's hiring, "His passion for rugby and leadership abilities make him the perfect fit to build Trine Rugby."

That passion is on full display in today's article written by Alex Goff, a reporter at the forefront of the American rugby scene for almost 20 years, and highlights Breda's path to his new position at Trine University.

The Maryland native comes to Trine having most recently served in two coaching roles. Since 2020 he has served as the head coach of both the varsity and junior varsity teams at Loyola Blakefield High School. He led the program to a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association State championship in his first season.

In 2021 he also began a role with Old Glory DC Rugby coaching the first U19 boys team for the Major League Rugby (MLR) franchise and serving as an integral part of the team's scouting efforts ahead of the 2021 MLR draft.

From 2016-19 he served as an assistant coach for the 15's team and head coach of the 7's team at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While there he helped the team make a successful move to the highest level of university rugby in the United States, leading the team to a 9-2 record in their first season and making it to the round of 16 in the national championship tournament.

Breda competed collegiately at Arkansas State University where he started for and captained the team to a Varsity Cup semifinal and two quarterfinals.

Trine University men's rugby is set to begin competition this fall, with their 15's set to enter National Collegiate Rugby Division II.

The program will be hosting a rugby visit day on Monday, February 21 along with a "Meet the Coach" that evening at 7 p.m. Interested parties should reach out to coach Breda.
