Thunder Fall in Double-OT

FRANKLIN, IND.-- The Trine men's soccer team fell to Transylvania 3-2 in double-overtime Saturday afternoon in the Daniel Schuetz Community Classic, held at Faught Stadium.

Blake Chidester's goal with less than three minutes remaining in the second-OT lifted the Pioneers to the victory. The goal was Chidester's fourth of the season. Kenny Rappuhn (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) scored a goal and added an assist to lead Trine. Dalton Mullennix (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) also notched a goal for the Thunder. The Pioneers held an 18-10 advantage in shots on goal. Trine falls to 1-1-1 overall on the season. Transylvania improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Tate Spivey got the Pioneers on the board 25:15 into the contest, finishing low on a shot from the middle of the box. Ben Rossoll picked up the assist. That was all the scoring the first half would see.

The Thunder struck back early in the second half, as Mullennix knotted the score at one-apiece just over two minutes after halftime. The goal was the freshman's first as a member of the Thunder. Rappuhn picked up the assist.

Rappuhn gave the Thunder the lead at the 70:45 mark, scoring his first goal of the season on an odd-man rush off a turnover. The goal was the seventh of Rappuhn's Trine career. Brec Musselman (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) picked up his first-career assist on the play.

Rossoll answered for the Pioneers just under six minutes later. Nick Blackwell picked up the assist. The goal sent the game to overtime, which set the stage for Chidester's game-winner.

Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) made five saves in net for Trine. Taylor Nossokoff made one save for the Pioneers.

Trine concludes their performance in the Daniel Schuetz Community Classic tomorrow when they face Franklin at 4:00 p.m.
