Thunder Shut Out Adrian

ANGOLA, IND.-- Two second-half goals lead Trine to a 2-0 victory over Adrian in MIAA-action Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Kenny Rappuhn (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) scored the game-winner for the Thunder, while Mac Green (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) added an assist. Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) earned the shutout in net, his third of the season and 13th of his career. Trine controlled the action throughout, outshooting the Bulldogs by a 21-6 margin. The Thunder improve to 5-10-1 overall and 2-8 in the MIAA. Adrian falls to 4-10-1 overall, 1-8-1 in conference play.

The two teams were locked in a scoreless battle until Rappuhn broke the game open just over 20 minutes into the second half. Green sent a pass across the box, which Rappuhn finished for his third goal of the season. The junior now has nine goals in his Trine career.

The Thunder added an insurance tally on an own goal. Green sent a pass into the box, which was deflected into the back of the net by an Adrian defender.

Stewart made one save in the shutout. The senior ranks second in shutouts at Trine in the Division III-era, which dates to 2004. Stewart entered the match as the MIAA-leader in saves.

Lino Taormina made five saves in net for the Bulldogs.

Trine returns to action this Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they travel to MIAA-foe Alma for a 4 p.m. match.
