Thunder Fall at Alma

ALMA, MICH.-- A late goal wasn't enough to complete a comeback attempt for Trine, as the Thunder fell to Alma, 2-1, in MIAA-action Tuesday afternoon at Scotland Yard.

The Scots built a 2-0 lead on goals by Trae Pitts and Julian Birge. Dalton Mullennix (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) scored and the Thunder outshot Alma in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the two-goal deficit. Alma outshot Trine 19-17 overall, with the Thunder holding an 11-8 advantage in the second half. Brett Galloway made six saves to earn the victory in net. Trine falls to 5-11-1 overall and 2-9 in the MIAA. The Scots improve to 6-7 overall, 5-6 in conference matches.

Pitts scored his third goal of the season 20:45 into the contest. Matt Sovis picked up the assist. Birge added a goal just over two minutes into the second half, assisted by Zach Vanderveer.

Mullennix's unassisted tally at the 72:08 mark gave the freshman a team-leading four goals on the season. Mullennix provided a spark the entire match as he got off three shots on goal. The Thunder outshot Alma 5-2 the rest of the way, but were unable to break through.

Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) made two saves in net for the Thunder.

Trine returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 25 when they host Calvin on Senior Day at Weaver Field.
