Trine Battles Transylvania to Draw

FRANKLIN, Ind.-- The Trine men's soccer team battled Transylvania to a scoreless draw in the final match of the Daniel Schuetz Community Classic Sunday at Franklin College.

The Pioneers outshout the Thunder by a 16-14 margin, though Trine held a 4-3 edge in the overtime periods. Thunder goalkeeper Ian Jindrich (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) made eight saves to earn his first-career shutout. Cody Waltrip also made eight saves for Transylvania. Trine wraps up non-conference play 3-2-1. Transylvania is now 1-1-3.

The Thunder had a couple scoring chances in the first overtime, but a shot sailed high and Waltrip made the stop on the other attempt. Jindrich made a save for Trine in the second-OT, but Waltrip answered with two saves at the other to preserve the shutout.

Trine will open conference play this Wednesday, Sept. 16 with a match at Calvin. The Thunder and Knights will square off at 4 p.m.
