GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The Trine men's soccer team fell to Calvin, 3-0 in the MIAA-opener Wednesday afternoon at Zuidema Field.

Jacob Witte had a hand in all three goals for the Knights, assisting on the first tally of the afternoon and scoring the final two insurance goals in the second half. Micah Beard also scored for Calvin. Nick Giantsopoulos made three saves to earn the shutout. Calvin improved to 5-0-1 with the victory. Trine fell to 3-3-1 overall.

Beard scored the first goal of the contest in the closing minutes of the first half, heading in a cross from Witte. The Knights would take that 1-0 lead into the half.

The score remained that way until Witte scored twice in the final 18 minutes. The first of those goals came off a pass from Isky Van Doorne. Less than five minutes later Witte scored again, this time with Bobby McCaw assisting.

After seven-straight road or neutral-site games to open the season, the Thunder will play its first home match of the season this Saturday. Trine hosts MIAA-foe Adrian at noon at Weaver Field.
