Late Goal Leads Bulldogs Over Thunder

ANGOLA, Ind.-- A late goal lifted Adrian to a 2-1 victory over Trine's men's soccer team in MIAA-action Saturday night in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

Tad Davis scored with 1:48 to play in the second half to provide the winning-margin. Davis also assisted on the Bulldogs other goal, scored by Brandon Katona. Evan VanBelle (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) scored Trine's goal. The Thunder fell to 3-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA. Adrian improved to 3-3-1, 2-0 in conference matches.

Ian Jindrich (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) made a diving save on a penalty kick early in the match to keep the game scoreless. Jindrich made four saves in the contest.

VanBelle got the Thunder on the board at the 39:45 mark of the first half. Ben Moricz (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) sent a cross into the box, which Nick Lang (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) tipped on to VanBelle. The senior ripped a shot into the top of the net to put Trine up 1-0.

Moricz had a chance in the closing seconds of the half, but Adrian keeper Lino Taormina made a sprawling save the keep the score 1-0. Taormina made seven saves to earn the victory in net.

Davis rushed on net to set up the Adrian goal, getting off a quick pass to Katona to tie the score early in the second half. Davis' game-winner came off a cross from Zachary Roller for the final margin.

Trine returns to action this Tuesday, Sept. 22 when the Thunder host Kalamazoo at 4 p.m. at Weaver Field.
