Seniors lead Thunder to Season-Closing Victory

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine men's soccer team closed out its 2015 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Alma on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Seniors played a key role in the victory. Kenny Rappuhn (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) scored the game-winner off a pass from fellow-senior Kyle Barber (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls), while Jacob Nantz (Galesburg, Mich./Galesburg-Augusta) picked up the assist on freshman JT Plavchak's (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) first-career goal. Jonathon Lantz (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) made two saves in his first-career start between the pipes to earn the shutout.

Barber sent a cross from the right wing to far post for Rappuhn, who scored on the header for a 1-0 Thunder lead 15:38 into the contest. Rappuhn's goal was the 10th of his career and his third-career game-winner . Barber picked up his first-career assist on the tally.

The match stayed at 1-0 until Plavchack knocked in his first-career goal. Nantz assisted as the Thunder controlled play off a corner kick.

Andrew Reid made three saves in net for the Scots. Trine outshot Alma by a 19-9 margin.

Trine concluded the season 8-11-1 overall, 5-9 in the MIAA. The performance in conference play placed the Thunder fifth in the MIAA.

Alma enters the MIAA playoffs 11-6-1 overall, having earned the three-seed with an 8-5-1 mark in league action.
