Adrian Slips Past Men's Soccer

ANGOLA, Ind.—The Trine men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Adrian College on Saturday afternoon in overtime.

The Thunder got on the board first at 31:35 of the first half when Brandon Villanueva (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) scored his first goal of the season off a penalty kick.

Adrian tied the game up at one all at 50:42 in the second half when Tad Davis scored unassisted with a header off a throw in.

Late in regulation both teams traded scoring chances with each team having a free kick opportunity that resulted in a shot on goal. Both goalkeepers made their respective saves to keep the game deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs secured the win 4:40 into overtime off a penalty kick from Dolan Bonkowski.

Ian Jindrich (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) took the loss in net for the Thunder making five saves. Spencer Brown picked up the win for Adrian with six saves.

Trine and Adrian each had 15 total shots. The Bulldogs had seven corner kicks to Trine's five.

Bill Wilson (Mason, Mich./Mason) had seven shots for the Thunder, including three on goal. Four Bulldog players had two shots apiece.

The Thunder returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when it travels to Hope for a 7 p.m. game.
