Thunder Men Drop Match to Kalamazoo
ANGOLA, Ind. -– The Trine men's soccer team fell to Kalamazoo, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Jannen Field.

The first goal for the Hornets came with just over six minutes remaining in the first half. Cal Kirchen beat the keeper in front of the net off of a feed from Joshua Robison. They tacked on another one early in the second half, when Kyle Hernandez buried a penalty kick.

It was a very physical game, as the two teams combined for 30 fouls and three yellow cards including Ryan Craig and Jamison Bever for Trine, and Brenden Groggel for Kalamazoo. The teams were pretty even in every category besides goals. Trine had 16 fouls to Kalamazoo's 14, and 10 shots to the Hornets nine. Both teams also had three corner kicks.

Kurt Wysocki had three shots for the Thunder, and Bill Wilson and Brec Musselman each had two. William Macedo had four saves, including a great stop on a free kick late in the second half.

Griffin Hamel also had a couple of good saves, completing a shutout for the Hornets with six total saves. Kirchen led the team with three shots, and Hernandez chipped in two.

Trine fell to 0-7-2 (0-4 MIAA) on the season. Kalamazoo improved to 1-2-4 (1-1-2 MIAA).

The Thunder men play at home again on Tuesday, Sept. 27, against Olivet. The expected start time is 4 p.m.
