Men's Soccer Falls to Olivet

ANGOLA, Ind.– The Thunder men's soccer team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Olivet 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Olivet scored first when David Magallon capitalized on a rebound with 5:20 left in the first half. Trine responded early in the second half when Mason Pelphrey (Portsmouth, Ohio/Clay) ran straight down the middle of the field to put in the equalizer. It didn't take long for Olivet to answer back, as less than a minute later Michael Brait put the eventual game-winner into the back of the net.

There were scoring chances aplenty for both teams, and the goalkeepers did a good job of stopping many of those chances. Tyler Marsman (1-1) had three saves for the Comets, and William Macedo (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) had five stops for the Thunder.

Trine outshot Olivet 20-12, but many shots from the Thunder were just a little off target. Trine also had 10 corner kicks to Olivet's six.

The Comets controlled the action for much of the first half, but the Thunder came on strong in the second, outshooting Olivet 14-5.

Kyle Wainscott (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) had six shots to lead Trine. He also added an assist. Bill Wilson (Mason, Mich./Mason) had five shots, and Pelphrey contributed four. Magallon led Olivet with six shots with an assist.

Trine drops to 0-8-2 on the season, and 0-5 in the MIAA. Olivet improved to 2-8-1 for the season, and 2-2-1 in the MIAA.

The Thunder returns to action Saturday, October 1, at Alma. It is slated to start at 2:30 p.m.
