Men's Soccer Drops Match to Hope

Angola, Ind. – The Trine men's soccer team lost to conference foe Hope 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Hope scored twice in the first half, first on a header from Christian Dault, then on a last-second goal by Jordan Ernst. The Dutchmen scored two more times in the second half, including another header, this time from Steve Bennig, and another Jordan Ernst goal. Trine then scored on a shot from the goal line on the left side, courtesy of Mason Pelphrey (Portsmouth, Ohio/Clay). Hope added another goal late thanks to Heriberto De Leon.

22 total players saw action for the Dutchmen, and 12 registered shots, led by David White, who had four, and Jared Wondergem, who had three. James Reymann had two assists for Hope, and Wondergem and Colin Bennett each had one assist. Blair McCormick (4-9-0) had three saves and allowed one goal before Stephen Wilbur came in to relieve him in the 78th minute, recording one save.

Kyle Wainscott (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) paced the Thunder with five shots. Ryan Craig (Greenwood, Ind./Roncalli), Pelphrey, Cole Mabie (Plainwell, Mich./Delton Kellogg), Kurt Wysocki (Avon, Ohio/St. Edward), Sam Loga (Tawas City, Mich./Tawas Area), and Ryan Bosse (Cincinnati, Ohio/Deer Park) also had shot attempts for Trine. William Macedo (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) (0-10-0) played the first half and had four saves. Ian Jindrich (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) came in for the second half and notched five saves.

Hope outshot Trine 21-10, and also had 10 corner kicks to the Thunder's three. Dault and Sam Mason each drew yellow cards for Hope.

Hope goes to 4-11 (2-8 MIAA) on the season. Trine falls to 0-13-2 (0-10 MIAA).

The Thunder travel to Kalamazoo Wednesday, October 19, to take on the Hornets. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Trine's next, and final, home match will be Tuesday, October 25, against Alma at 4 p.m.
