Thunder Tie Yellow Jackets in Double Overtime

DEFIANCE, OHIO  --  Junior Ben Moricz (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) scored the lone goal for the Trine University men's soccer team as the Thunder tied Defiance College, 1-1, in a non-conference game in Defiance, Ohio.

After a scoreless first half, Trine (2-0-1) got on the board first at the 64:10 minute mark of the second half with Moricz's unassisted goal.  Defiance (2-0-1) evened the game just over three minutes later during the 68th minute making the score 1-1.

Neither team could net the go-ahead goal in the final minutes of regulation, keeping the game tied at 1-1 to force overtime.

In the first overtime period, Trine recorded the only shot which came off of a header attempt by junior Damon Prifogle (Terre Haute, Ind./North Vigo) with under three minutes remaining, but the attempt was blocked keeping the game deadlocked at a goal apiece.

During the final 10 minutes, the Thunder again recorded the only shot attempts of the period.  Both shots came off the foot of freshman Jonathan Slone (Troy, Ohio/Troy Christian) during the 106th and 108th minutes.  Each attempt sailed high resulting in the game ending in a 1-1 tie after 110 total minutes.

In goal for the Thunder, sophomore Quinn O'Brien (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) played the entire game and made two saves while giving up just the lone goal.

Trine will host No. 2 nationally ranked Calvin (Mich.) College in the home opener next Wednesday, Sept. 13.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
