Second Half Goal Gives Trine Win Against Adrian

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Senior Mason Pelphrey (Portsmouth, Ohio/Clay) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season to lead the Trine men's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Adrian (Mich.) College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at the Weaver Soccer Field.

Following a scoreless first half, the 0-0 stalemate was finally broken at the 62:28 minute mark of the second half when Pelphrey found the back of the net on a corner kick opportunity.  Senior Bill Wilson (Mason, Mich./Mason) set up the Pelphrey goal and was credited with the assist.

Adrian (4-4-1, 3-2-1 MIAA) would tally a few scoring chances during the remainder of the period, but solid goal tending by Trine (4-2-3, 2-2-2 MIAA) netminder Connor Werschem (Muskegon, Mich./Fruitport) kept the Bulldogs from scoring the game equilizer as the Thunder held on for the 1-0 shutout victory.

Werschem played all 90 minutes in net for Trine and collected his first collegiate shutout.  For the game, Werschem tallied five saves.

Trine will play back-to-back road games beginning with a trip to Alma, Mich. for a MIAA matchup against Alma College on Tuesday, Oct. 3.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
