Men's Soccer Falls Short of Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's soccer team fell short of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent Kalamazoo College, 2-1, in a conference matchup in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Despite only recording two shots in the first half, Trine (5-4-5, 3-4-4 MIAA) made the most of its opportunities by scoring the game's first goal with under 10 minutes to go in the period when freshman Anthony Chike (Allen, Texas/Allen) put a shot past the Kalamazoo (7-5-2, 6-3-1 MIAA) goalkeeper at the 38:19 minute mark.

The Chike goal turned out to be the only point of the first half as the Thunder took a 1-0 edge into the locker room.

Early in the second half, the Hornets evened the game at 1-1 during the 53rd minute.  The score remained deadlocked for the majority of the rest of the period until the final minutes when the Hornets scored the go-ahead goal with just under two minutes to go, making the score, 2-1.

Time wasn't on Trine's side and the only shot during the remainder of the period was recorded by Kalamazoo as the Hornets went on to the 2-1 final.

In net for Trine, senior William Macedo (Elhart, Ind./Memorial) saw his first action of the season and played all 90 minutes.  He made three saves while facing five shots on goal.

Trine will travel to Holland, Mich. to take on Hope College in a MIAA on Saturday, Oct. 21.  The game is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
