Men's Soccer Ties Alma on Senior Day

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University men's soccer team battled Alma (Mich.) College to a scoreless tie, 0-0, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game at the Weaver Soccer Field on senior day.

Both teams recorded four shots in the opening period with a pair of shots by Trine (5-6-6, 3-6-5 MIAA) being on net.  Junior Ben Moricz (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) recorded the Thunder's first scoring chance at the 22:37 minute mark, followed by a shot on goal by senior Bill Wilson (Mason, Mich./Mason) during the 29th minute.  Both shots ended in saves as the two teams went into halftime even at 0-0.

The second half saw Alma have a slight edge in the shot category, 7-5.  All five of Trine's shots forced the Alma (3-11-4, 3-8-3 MIAA) goalkeeper to make a play, but neither of the shots would find its way past the opposing netminder.  The Scots tallied scoring chances of their own in the final 45 minutes, but the equally solid play by freshman Tyler Zigler (Terre Haute, Ind./North) in goal for Trine, kept the game scoreless to force overtime.

In the first overtime, Trine won the shot battle, 3-1, but no shots ended in the game-winning goal, sending the game into a final 10-minute overtime period.

Trine had a slight edge over Alma in shots, 2-1, in the final overtime period with the lone shot on goal coming off the foot of freshman Jonathan Slone (Troy, Ohio/Troy Christian).  The Thunder also had a series of potential scoring opportunities off of corner kicks, but none of the shots found the back of the net as the game ended in a scoreless tie after 110 total minutes.

Zigler played the entire game in net for Trine (110 minutes) and had a total of eight saves.
