Men's Soccer Ends Season With Loss Against Calvin In MIAA Tournament Semifinal

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.  --  Trine University's men's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 5-1 loss against top-seeded and No. 1 nationally-ranked Calvin (Mich.) College in a semifinal of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

The first goal of the game didn't come until about the midway point of the first half when Calvin (18-0-1) took the lead with a score at the 20:02 minute mark.  Just over three minutes later, the Knights added to their lead with another goal at the 23:06 mark of off a rebound to make it a 2-0 game.

Trine (5-7-6) cut the deficit in half during the 37th minute when freshman Chris Clemens (Angola, Ind./Angola) found the back of the net to put the Thunder within a goal, 2-1.  But Calvin quickly regained its two-goal advantage with a final score just before the end of the period during the 41st minute to lead, 3-1, at the break.

The second half belonged to the Knights as the only two points came off the feet of Calvin players, beginning with a goal during the 61st minute off of a breakaway to increase the margin to 4-1.

The final goal of the contest was scored at the 69:49 mark by Calvin on a cross as the Knights went on to the 5-1 final and advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4 in Grand Rapids.
