Moricz, Aljabaly Score Twice in Win Against Defiance

DEFIANCE, OHIO  --  Ben Moricz (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and Nooh Aljabaly (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) both scored a pair of goals as the Trine University men's soccer team beat Defiance College, 5-1, in non-conference action in Defiance, Ohio.

Moricz picked up right where he left off in the season opener scoring goals during the 25th and 62nd minutes.  Aljabaly, who scored a goal and added an assist in the first game of the season, continued his early offensive burst with two goals of his own inbetween the Moricz scores during the 27th and 58th minutes. 

Kyle Wainscott (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) also scored a goal for the Thunder to round out the scoring which came at the 74:02 mark.

The game started off as a defensive struggle in the first half until Moricz found the back of the net for the first time at the 24:06 mark with a helper from Caleb Glass (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) that put Trine (2-0) out ahead, 1-0.  About two-and-a-half minutes later, Aljabaly connected for his first goal of the game (unassisted) at the 26:31 mark to extend the margin to 2-0 at the break.

The Thunder put three shots past the Defiance (1-2) netminder in the second half, beginning with Aljabaly's second marker of the contest to begin the 58th minute.  Moricz added to his point total on the day with an assist.  Moricz then capped an already impressive start to the season with his second goal at the 61:15 mark to make it a 4-0 game. 

The final goal of the game came off the foot of Wainscott at the 74:02 mark on an unassisted score that put the Thunder up by five goals, 5-0.

Defiance scored its lone goal late in the game when a shot found its way to the back of the net, but the the score would come a bit too late as Trine already secured the victory and went on to claim the 5-1 victory.

In net for Trine, Taylor Medina (Mill Creek, Ind./Rochester) got the start and played a solid 74:27 allowing no goals and had a pair of saves.  He was also credited with the win and improves to 2-0 on the season.  Quinn O'Brien (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) replaced Medina in the second half and played the final 15:33 allowing just the lone goal.

Trine will look to continue its early momentum when it travels to Crawfordsville, Ind. for a matchup against Wabash College on Saturday, Sept. 8.  Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
