Two Second Half Goals Lead to Win Against Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND.  --  The Trine University men's soccer team saw all of its scoring come in the second half with a pair of scores to come away with a 2-1 victory against Manchester University in a non-conference game in North Manchester, Ind.

Manchester (2-6-1) scored the only point of the first half and took a 1-0 lead at the 31:38 mark with an unassisted goal.  Despite outshooting the Spartans, 5-1, in the first 45 minutes, all shots missed the net, keeping Trine (7-1-1) off the scoreboard to trail 1-0 at the break.

Coming out of the intermission, the Thunder offense continued to keep the pressure on the Manchester defense with a total of eight shots in the second half and got their first shot past the Spartan netminder at the 76:36 mark when sophomore Nooh Aljabaly (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) scored his 10th goal of the season which evened the score at 1-1.

Less than four minutes later, freshman Brandon Murphy (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) scored the go-ahead goal during the 81st minute to make the score, 2-1.  The goal turned out to be the final score of the game as Manchester was held without a shot in the final nine-and-a-half minutes as Trine went on to the 2-1 win.

Freshman Brian Morris (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer) ended the night with two points after recording an assist on both Trine goals.

Freshman Taylor Medina (Mill Creek, Ind./Rochester) played all 90 minutes in goal and gave up just the lone goal, while making one save to pick up the win.

Trine will begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play when it travels to Albion, Mich. to take on Albion College on Wednesday, Oct. 3.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
