Men's Soccer Falls to Calvin in Rain-Shortened Affair

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University men's soccer team fell to No. 4 nationally-ranked Calvin (Mich.) College, 7-0, in a matchup that was cut short by inclement weather in the second half in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action as part of Homecoming festivities at Weaver Field.

Calvin (10-1, 2-0 MIAA) looked to jump out early and tallied a pair of goals within the first six minutes of the contest.  The Knights got on the board a little over three minutes in at the 3:13 mark with their first goal and then found the back of the net at the 5:05 mark on a penalty shot to take the early 2-0 advantage.

The first half saw two more scores by the visitors which came during the 22 and 26th minutes as Calvin led, 4-0, at the break.

Calvin again struck in the early minutes of the second half beginning with a goal at the 43:44 mark to increase the margin to 5-0.  The Knights then followed with another marker during the 48th minute before striking for the final time during the 53rd minute to make it a 7-0 game.

Nearing the end of the second period, the rains returned and forced the game to be called due to lightning and worsening field conditions resulting in Calvin coming away with the 7-0 victory.

Trine (8-2-1, 1-1 MIAA) totaled four shots in the game with two being on net.  Both shots ended in saves for Calvin to preserve the shutout.  Sophomore Nooh Aljabaly (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) took three out of the four shots, including having both shots on goal for the team.  Freshman Brian Morris (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer) tallied the other shot taken.

In net, freshman Taylor Medina (Mill Creek, Ind./Rochester) played the entire game and made two saves.

Trine is slated to host Kalamazoo (Mich.) College on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Weaver Field in a MIAA contest.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
