Thunder Holds Off Flying Dutchmen on Senior Day

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Senior Kyle Wainscott (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) scored what turned out to be the only score of the game to lead the Trine University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Hope (Mich.) College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game at Weaver Field on senior day.

The goal by Wainscott came at the 24:58 mark of the first half after a deflection found its way to the foot of the senior who put the ensuing shot past the Hope (12-2-1, 3-2-1 MIAA) netminder for the 1-0 lead.  Trine (11-3-1, 4-2 MIAA) outshot the Dutchmen, 5-1, in the opening half and took its one goal lead into the intermission.

The second half saw the Hope offensive pressure increase with a 10-2 shot advantage that included five shots put on net.  But Trine freshman goalkeeper Taylor Medina (Mill Creek, Ind./Rochester) kept all five shots from finding the back of the net to preserve the victory and the shutout.

Medina played the entire game in net and improved to 8-2-1 on the season with the win.

Trine will wrap-up the regular season with a MIAA matchup against Alma (Mich.) College on Tuesday, Oct. 23.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Alma, Mich.
