Trine Ends Regular Season With Shutout Against Alma

ALMA, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's soccer team capped a standout regular season with a 4-0 win against Alma (Mich.) College in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association finale in Alma, Mich.

Freshman Brian Morris (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer) scored two of Trine's (12-3-1, 5-2 MIAA) four goals on the night, including the game-winner with the first goal of the game at 30:28 mark of the first half.  Morris' first goal was assisted by sophomore Nooh Aljabaly (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater), his team-leading fifth of the season.  The duo ranks first and second in total points with Aljabaly ending the regular-season with 39 points (17 goals and five assists), while Morris has tallied 18 points (seven goals and four assists).

Aljabaly scored a goal of his own after less than a minute after the Morris goal with an unassisted marker during the 32nd minute to increase the Thunder lead to 2-0 at halftime.

Almost 20 minutes into the second half, Morris struck for his second score of the game at 64:37 that made the score, 3-0.  The final goal was scored during the 87th minute off the foot of sophomore Jonathan Slone (Troy, Ohio/Troy Christian), his fifth of the season, en route to the 4-0 final.

The Thunder defense held Alma (5-10, 2-5 MIAA) to 13 shots with just two shots being on net.  Trine freshman goalkeeper, Taylor Medina (Mill Creek, Ind./Rochester), claimed his 11th win of the season (11-3-1 overall) and had a pair of saves in 90 minutes.

Trine has secured the third seed in the MIAA Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Alma in a first-round game on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Weaver Field.  Start time is set for 4 p.m.
