Aljabaly Scores Only Goal In Season Opening Win Against Earlham

RICHMOND, IND.  --  Junior Nooh Aljabaly (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick as the Trine University men's soccer team shutout Earlham (Inc.) College, 1-0, in the season opener in Richmond, Ind.

The Thunder defense also had a standout afternoon as Trine (1-0) held Earlham (0-1) without a shot taken offensively for the entire 90 minutes.  The Quakers' lone offensive possibility came on a corner kick in the second half that was recorded with just under four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the contest.

Aljabaly's scoring chance game at the 71 minute mark following an Earlham yellow card.  Aljabaly took advantage of the opportunity with a shot that sailed past the Earlham netminder and put Trine ahead on the scoreboard.

The Thunder defense maintained its dominance the remainder of the game to preserve the one-goal shutout and start the new year off with a 1-0 record.

Sophomore Taylor Medina (Mill Creek, Ind./Rochester) played all 90 minutes at goalkeeper for Trine to get his first win of the season, and first shutout.

Trine will be in action again tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 31) when the Thunder travel to Anderson, Ind. to take on Anderson University in a matchup that is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
