Thunder Beat Ravens

ANDERSON, IND.  --  The Trine University men's soccer team came away with a 2-0 win against Anderson University in the final game of the Raven/Quaker Classic in Anderson, Ind.

Trine (2-0) outshot Anderson (1-1), 15-1, in the opening half, but neither team recorded a goal in the first 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, the stalemate was finally broken when Trine freshman Bailey Zurface (Spencer, Ind./Bloomington South) scored his first collegiate goal at the 66:50 minute mark to put the Thunder on the scoreboard, 1-0.  Fellow freshman Jared Cromwell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) also recorded his first offensive point of his college career with an assist on the Zurface goal.

About 13 minutes later, Trine added to its lead when freshman Cedric Carbajal (El Paso, Texas/Bel Air) notched his first career goal during the 80th minute off of a rebound on a blocked shot attempt that extended the margin to 2-0.

The pair of scores would be all that Trine needed as the Thunder posted their second straight shutout to begin the season with a final score against the Ravens of 2-0.

After not facing a shot in yesterday's game, sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Medina (Mill Creek, Ind./Rochester) made his first saves of the 2019 season stopping both shots he faced in 90 minutes.  The win also gives Medina a 2-0 record and a pair of shutout victories.

Trine will begin a seven-game homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 4 against Defiance (Ohio) College at Weaver Field in Angola, Ind.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
