Thunder Come Up Short Against Flying Dutchmen

HOLLAND, MICH.  --  The Trine University men's soccer team suffered a 6-2 defeat against Hope (Mich.) College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action in Holland, Mich.

Hope () struck for the first goal of the game at the 12:54 mark of the first half.  Trine () then evened the score when sophomore Trevor Towghi (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern) found the back of the net with an unassisted goal during at the start of the 28th minute to make it a 1-1 game.

Nearing the end of the period, the Flying Dutchmen regained the lead with an unassisted marker of their own at the 35:47 mark for a 2-1 advantage.  Within the last five minutes of the half, both teams tallied goals with Trine's goal coming off the foot of senior Nooh Aljabaly (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) that tied the game at 2-2.  But Hope recorded its goal during the 44th minute to round out the scoring and take a slim 3-2 margin into the intermission.

The goal that ended the first half was a streak of four unanswered scores for Hope as the Dutchmen added three more scores in the second half.  Hope scored its first two goals of the final period within the span of six minutes starting with a goal at the 51:44 mark and then again at the 57:47 mark to lead, 5-2.

The difference remained three goals until the 73rd minute when Hope tacked on its final goal at the 72:27 mark and managed to hold the Thunder scoreless for the final 45 minutes en route to the 6-2 final.

Freshman Austin Hensley (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) started the game in net for the Thunder and made three saves on nine shots face in a little over 75 minutes.  Fellow freshman Dylan Bastin (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) came on to play the final 14:42 and didn't allow any goals and had no saves.

Trine will wrap-up the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 when it hosts Alma (Mich.) College in a MIAA game at Weaver Field.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
