Men's Soccer Stumbles at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The Trine University men's soccer team dropped a tough match to their hosts from Otterbein College, falling by the score of 2-0.

The Thunder had the first strong chance for a goal in the contest when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 17th minute of the contest, but the oppositions keeper made the play and kept the team off the board.

The Cardinals then came up with the first goal of the contest at the 38-minute mark of the first half. The goal was set up by Thunder penalty in the offensive zone and gave the home team a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Otterbein then extended their lead in the 59th minute of the contest when they were awarded a penalty kick of their own which they converted to make the score 2-0.

In goal for Trine, sophomore Troy Saylor (Caledonia, Mich. / Caledonia) played a solid game despite giving up the pair of goals. He finished the game with six saves.

A pair of Thunder finished in the lead offensively for the team. Both junior Colin Nicoski (Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield East) and senior Connor Malmquist (Valparaiso, Ind. / Morgan Township) finished the contest with two shots with one coming on goal each.

Trine falls to 3-3 following the loss. Their next contest is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. For the first time this season the team will play on their home turf.
